Number 182: Treasure

To finish off my week of still life paintings, I set up this simple arrangement of a star shaped box and some pearl necklaces.  The box was a challenge to render the angles correctly and the pearls were tough to make round and to actually make them look like pearls.

For my next still life I took this ceramic luminary, lit the candle and tried to render the lovely glow.  I wanted the setting to be dark, but I need enough light to paint by and this is today's challenge.

Here is my next still life.  I used a shell a friend gave me years ago and got out a beach towel to complete this set up.  Drawing and painting from life is much different than using photographs, but I think I'm doing okay with this.

I finally set up a still life area where I could paint some objects from life.  I don't know if this is a genre I'm enthusiastic about, but it's a great opportunity to improve my drawing skills and explore new subjects.  This is a piece of my favorite crackle glass.

This is a good challenge for me… to paint an object. Someone sent me this picture of this piece that is actually part of the landscaping around a gas station.  You never know where you might find a little bit of beauty.  7 x 5 inches.

Number 160: Breakfast is Over

Here is an empty cereal bowl with spoon.  Since I'm looking down at it at an angle the perspective was hard for me.  I wanted to paint the shape I knew the bowl to be instead of what I really saw. I need to work on my drawing skills, but for a quick study, I'm okay with this.

Here are two tomatoes fresh from the grocery store.  Ripe and ready to eat I wanted to use loose brush strokes and keep it lively not over detailed.

Stopped by my mom's and she had three pears ripening on the counter.  Being a daily painter always on the look out for painting subjects, I took several pictures.  Here is my rendition.

Had this bunch of green bananas ripening on the counter and it appealed to me for today's painting. I love bananas, but they have to be had the perfect ripeness.  Yellow with a touch of green.  These bananas are not there yet.

Number 91: Radishes

Today I decided to try this lovely paint of radishes.  I wanted my dish to looked curved and the radishes to have some dimension.  It's hard to show depth in a 2D medium, but I have to conquer this skill if I want to paint realistically.

I'm an fine art artist in Raleigh, North Carolina.  I need a paintbrush in my hand to feel complete and I invite you to follow me on my art journey. Everyday brings new ideas and projects... there simply is not enough time... On December 1, 2012, I joined the community of artists who paint a painting each and every day. I haven't been able to keep up with the daily painting, but I'm trying hard to keep my paintbrushes busy.
