This is the third in my trio of paintings started over the weekend. It's been a very nice few days of painting and I hope I will have more time later in the week. I've already collected some fall leaves I want to paint. Next to flowers, clouds are one of my favorite things to paint and this is from a picture taken on the west coast at the end of a stormy day. 5 x 7 inches.
It was a perfect day at Falls Lake recently. Low humidity, cool temperature and standing in the sun felt great. The clouds were beautiful and it was the starting point for today's painting. 5 x 7 inches
I went on a cruise a couple of Septembers ago and was amazed at some of the cloud formations. I've never seen clouds so low; they seemed to hover just above sea level. 5 x 7 inches
I especially like the lighting on a partly cloudy day late in the afternoon so for today's painting I chose a late day lighting for these altostratus clouds.

After my week of wave studies, I'm moving on to clouds for this week. I love clouds, always have. I remember laying on the lawn watching the clouds go by when I was a kid and then I go outside the first thing I do is look up at the clouds. Join me for this week of cloudscapes. 7 x 5 inches
I woke up this morning thinking about my daily painting and knew I wanted to paint clouds. I've painted this scene twice before on a 24 x 36 inch canvas and have not been completely happy with it, and I just wanted to have fun with this smaller version.

The gray clouds were finally lifting when I decided to walk one day. It was very windy and the clouds were rapidly moving out but still filled the sky. I tried to catch the drama and movement that struck me at that moment when I came over the hill and saw this scene.

I'm an fine art artist in Raleigh, North Carolina. I need a paintbrush in my hand to feel complete and I invite you to follow me on my art journey. Everyday brings new ideas and projects... there simply is not enough time... On December 1, 2012, I joined the community of artists who paint a painting each and every day. I haven't been able to keep up with the daily painting, but I'm trying hard to keep my paintbrushes busy.
