I've seen flamingos at the zoo and was happy to see this reference photo on Wet Canvas. I love how graceful they are with their long curvy necks. I hope I did them justice. 7 x 5 inches.
Our state bird is the cardinal and the state flower is the dogwood, so what better combination is there than a cardinal perched in a blooming dogwood tree.

I've done a larger painting of this scene, but wanted to hone in on the sandpipers. I tried to think feathers as I painted these birds so they would come to life on my canvas.

These black headed gulls are today's subject. This is from a reference photo. Black headed gulls are not common in my area, as far as I know, but I do know how noisy all gulls are when they are chasing food scraps. Is it just noise or are they talking among themselves?

There is a magnolia tree outside my home office window that has been chosen as a nesting spot by a mother bird for the past two springs. I was fortunate to get some great photos as she made her nest, laid her eggs and mothered her babies. This daily painting is a study for a larger canvas.

I'm an fine art artist in Raleigh, North Carolina. I need a paintbrush in my hand to feel complete and I invite you to follow me on my art journey. Everyday brings new ideas and projects... there simply is not enough time... On December 1, 2012, I joined the community of artists who paint a painting each and every day. I haven't been able to keep up with the daily painting, but I'm trying hard to keep my paintbrushes busy.
