I've Gone Big!

After almost a year of painting 5 x 7 small oil paintings, I've gone Big!!! I'm now in love with 30 x 40 acrylic paintings.  This is my latest painting fresh off the easel. I've painted in acrylics before and the quick drying time was so frustrating, but now that I have hours of painting experience, it's a bonus to be able to rework an area quickly if it isn't working. And, not only have I gone big, but I indulge in the best linen canvas I can afford and believe me it makes a huge difference.  Once I painted on this lovely surface, I decided I could never go back. Enjoy!

I seem to be attracted to all things purple lately.  Yesterday I painted this purple Iris from my photo collection.  I think the original photo was taken at the JC Raulston Arboretum  in Raleigh. 8 x 10 acrylic.

Today's Challenge

I took a break from finishing the doorway grouping that I'm working on and took on a challenge: the dandelion puff.  It was a challenge, but I'm pleased with the result.  This is an acrylic 5 x 7 small painting.

Doorway Series in Progress

I'm excited to say that my Doorway/Gateway series in in progress.  I was inspired by pictures I took in Old Town Alexandria when I was visiting recently.  The area is old, historical and so quaint.  I must say that man made structures have always posed a challenge to my painting skills, so these first two paintings are in progress.  I used acrylics as my base painting so I could work out some of the problems. Next step is to break out the oil paint and finish these up.

The Journey Begins

Welcome to my blog.  I'm excited to create the 3 series of art that I have planned. All of these will be small works, sometimes created as a triptych to be kept as a group, but more often all of these works will be 8 x 10 and smaller works of art. I paint in acrylics and oils and painting to me is like breathing.  I just have to do it.

The 3 series I currently have planned are Flowers, Doorways/Gateways and All God's Creatures.  The first piece of art is finished and is a triptych called "Bud to Bloom.

I'm an fine art artist in Raleigh, North Carolina.  I need a paintbrush in my hand to feel complete and I invite you to follow me on my art journey. Everyday brings new ideas and projects... there simply is not enough time... On December 1, 2012, I joined the community of artists who paint a painting each and every day. I haven't been able to keep up with the daily painting, but I'm trying hard to keep my paintbrushes busy.
