If you looked at my photo library, you would see how many times I've taken this picture. As winter turns to spring, the trees leaf out and provide such a lovely picture as I look down the walkway that I just have to take a photo. This is at the far end of the lake and an area where the lakes inhabitants like to gather… ducks, geese, even fawns have been known to beg for a handout of stale bread. 5x7.
It's been said that spending money on experiences is much more rewarding than spending money on things. I completely agree and over the last year have made some wonderful memories. One of which is this scene. A special friend and I took a day trip to Wrightsville Beach then on to Wilmington, NC, for Dinner. The Riverwalk District in Wilmington is a lovely place to dine on the patio and watch the sunset. 5 x 7.
When I was on vacation in Greenville, NY, there was a couple of days with absolutely perfect weather. Bright sun with no humidity. I took a walk at lunchtime and took a reference photo for this painting. I love the deep shadows under the canopy of trees going into the sun.

Whenever I paint geese, I find out that some people like them, some people, not so much. I mostly like them but I will agree in the spring with all their little goslings running around, they do get super protective and I won't go into all the "waste" that I'm trying to step around. At Lake Lynn I found these two gliding in the lake. 5 x 7.
I was in upstate New York this summer and had a chance to take a road less traveled. The Catskills Mountains in the background and the rolling hills of farmland filled with different shades of green were just calling out to be captured on canvas. I wanted to extend my road trip and do more exploring, but it just wasn't possible, but one day...

From Raleigh the beach is only a quick 2 hours away when traffic is light and many people go for the day as I did earlier this summer. Although the beach is lovely for a couple of more months and even in winter has it's charms, after Labor Day I start thinking about the fall colors in the western part of the state. This Labor Day weekend I went to the beach, but only in my painting. 5 x 7
5 x 7 isn't big enough to get much detail, which might be the point. I am trying to experiment with my color choices though. Nature designs wildlife to fit into its environment but the lack of contrast makes its tough to paint. So here I've taken the muddy green water and tried to add some life to it.
Here is another blue heron. This one is skimming the lake. They are beautiful and majestic creatures!

There are a couple of lakes right here in Raleigh with a 2 mile path that are perfect to walk around. I have to laugh at myself though. I find myself taking pictures of the same scenes at the exact same places on the path day after day. I get excited by the scenery at those spots every time and always think, "Oh, this would make a good painting."

I love to watch the blue herons at the lake and tried to capture how majestic they are when they "Lift Off" and skim the lake to a new location.

I'm an fine art artist in Raleigh, North Carolina. I need a paintbrush in my hand to feel complete and I invite you to follow me on my art journey. Everyday brings new ideas and projects... there simply is not enough time... On December 1, 2012, I joined the community of artists who paint a painting each and every day. I haven't been able to keep up with the daily painting, but I'm trying hard to keep my paintbrushes busy.
