Coming from Washington, D.C., I've spent many springs marveling at the beauty of the tidal basin ringed with Cherry Blossom trees.  For this painting, I added the blossoms with my palette knife.

Here are two tomatoes fresh from the grocery store.  Ripe and ready to eat I wanted to use loose brush strokes and keep it lively not over detailed.

I wanted to experiment with different shades of green. Some in the shade and some in the sunlight. I came across this photo I took, maybe at the Rose Garden in Raleigh, and thought it would be perfect.

At the library the other day, I noticed the landscaping as I left. It was a combination of river rocks and grasses and i like the patterns so, of course, I snapped a quick picture or two or three with my iPhone.

The light comes in my downstairs window at such a nice angle on a late winter day.  I caught this moment of light and shadow one day and decided to try to paint this.  I'm continuing to use bigger brushes so this was done primarily with a #8.

I was challenged to use a big brush, a #12, for this small painting instead of reaching for my favorite #2. What I like best about the results is that it captured the windy day perfectly.

The first daffodil in my little garden plot bloomed and is announcing spring, even though it's been a chilly one so far.

I was watching another art video yesterday and was inspired to try a few new techniques and paint colors.  Naples yellow rarely rises from the bottom of my paint box, but using it in the sky near the horizon gives an interesting look and also works well in the sandy beach.  I need to keep experimenting and reach for different colors sometimes.

Stopped by my mom's and she had three pears ripening on the counter.  Being a daily painter always on the look out for painting subjects, I took several pictures.  Here is my rendition.

I used a reference photo that I quickly took one day on my walk.  It had very little detail, and that was exactly why I chose it.  I wanted to use the structure of the creek, but make the scene my own.

I'm an fine art artist in Raleigh, North Carolina.  I need a paintbrush in my hand to feel complete and I invite you to follow me on my art journey. Everyday brings new ideas and projects... there simply is not enough time... On December 1, 2012, I joined the community of artists who paint a painting each and every day. I haven't been able to keep up with the daily painting, but I'm trying hard to keep my paintbrushes busy.
