![]() I love the Raleigh Rose Garden and visit often. These roses were past the peak of their beauty and starting to fall apart when I took the picture, but they were perfect for today's painting. I wanted this painting to be colorful and feel vibrant and loose and I think I achieved that. They may not read as roses, but they do read as flowers and that was the intent. 7 x 5 inches

![]() I want to learn more about color and what makes a good painting. Local color, especially in the summer, does not always make for a vibrant interesting painting so to that end, I took my reference photo and made it black and white. It's still hard to invent the color for this scene, but I think it's a great learning experience. 7 x 5 in. ![]() My daffodils are not yet in bloom but are sprouting. North Carolina winters are very confusing to some of the early blooming varieties. Our winters temperatures can be anywhere from the high 60s to the occasional below freezing temps. To me nothing says spring like daffodils and I just love them. 7 x 5 in. ![]() This is a successful painting, not because every detail is correct, it certainly is not. For example, take a look at the power lines and you can see that they really don't make sense the way I have them. But it's a successful painting because it's a subject I have not tackled before and I had fun doing it. 7 x 5 in. ![]() 5 x 7 in. I seem to be gravitating to water and waves lately but that's ok. In my imagination, I reached this scene after a long hike, and when I came over the rise, was greeted by the sea and a deserted beach. It's a hard stretch of beach to get too so it's deserted most of the time, but it's an oasis of solitude for me. The sound of the water and surf is calming and I can feel myself relax and recharge. What do you feel from this painting? |
AuthorI'm an fine art artist in Raleigh, North Carolina. I need a paintbrush in my hand to feel complete and I invite you to follow me on my art journey. Everyday brings new ideas and projects... there simply is not enough time... On December 1, 2012, I joined the community of artists who paint a painting each and every day. I haven't been able to keep up with the daily painting, but I'm trying hard to keep my paintbrushes busy. Archives
